FAQ
So that I wont have to answer the same questions all over again, I have compiled a list of questions and answers around CAV.
Q: Why can't CAV detect a virus in my computer?
A: Most possible cause is that the virus is not yet in CompactbyteAV's database, you should send the virus sample to me.
Q: Why does my documents disappear or the size becomes very small?
A: Some viruses, like mywife, will overwrite your files, and that is almost impossible to fix.
Q:Why CAV kills my program?
A:Algorithms being used by CompactbyteAV to decide whether a program is considers suspicious is a bit rough, so there is a great possibility that your program is considered to be a virus.
Q: Why does CAV asks to rename file MSVBVM60.DLL.xxx to MSVBVM60.DLL?
A: New Brontok virus renames MSVBVM60.DLL, this may cause your Visual Basic programs to stop working (there are a lot of office applications written in VB). Some people who doesn't use VB also renames their MSVBVM60.DLL to disable viruses written using VB. Since CompactbyteAV can not read your mind (whether you actually rename it or if some virus that did it), it will ask you whether to rename your MSVBVM60.DLL.xxx to MSVBVM60.DLL
Q: Why does CAV asks to rename my HOSTS file?
A: HOSTS file is a file used to map host names to IP address. If the mapping is changed in this file (e.g: by a virus), then your computer may not be able to access certain sites. This file is sometime used by webmasters to test websites on their local computer. CAV can not decide whether you are a webmaster, so it will ask you this question.
Q: Why doesn't Compactbyte AV delete files generated by certain viruses (such as brontok)?
A: Not all files generated by viruses will be deleted by CAV, because this is a risky operation. To avoid the risk of your data being accidentally deleted, CompactbyteAV choose to only delete dangerous files. Leftover files are usually very small and not dangerous.
Q: Do you intend to compete with other antivirus (local or international)?
A: No, this program is only meant to complement existing antivirus program and as an alternative if the others failed.
Q: Why does CAV can only detect a small number of viruses? Why can't it detect some Indonesian viruses?
A: That is the collection that I have so far. If you want to add my virus collection, please contact me.
Q: If the number of detected viruses increase, will CompactbyteAV binary size becomes large like other AVs?
A: I will try to minimize the binary size of CAV. The virus database has been compressed, adding a virus will only add about 30-100 bytes. CAV size will increase if new features are implemented.
